At MUSE Peranakan Bistro By The Sea in Melaka, the dining experience extends beyond the table. Peranakan flavours, open skies and the rhythm of the coast give the place its character. I developed a cinematic story connecting the food with its surroundings: the seaside setting, the details of the space, the people and the experience of sharing a meal. The visual approach moves between wide views of the coast and intimate moments at the table. Warm daylight, food textures and an unhurried editing rhythm bring these elements together. The project combines a brand film with seven commercial short-form videos, presenting different parts of MUSE’s dining experience through one consistent visual direction.

Concept
Peranakan flavours, seaside light and the feeling of an afternoon worth staying for.
Brand objective
Present MUSE as a distinctive seaside dining destination in Melaka, connecting its Peranakan food with the atmosphere of the location. Create a cohesive film and short-form content collection that helps prospective guests understand the experience before they visit.
Creative direction
Build the story around a sense of place. Use wide coastal views to establish the setting, then move closer to the food, people and small details that give MUSE its personality. Let warm daylight, the venue’s existing colours and food textures guide the imagery. Balance intimate close-ups with wider dining scenes, giving each moment enough space to be felt. Keep the main film atmospheric and cohesive, with shorter edits highlighting individual parts of the experience.
Client challenge
Bring the food, dining space and seaside environment into one coherent story. The production required balancing close-up food filming with wider location coverage, while maintaining a consistent visual mood as daylight changed throughout the shoot.
My role & key decisions
Creative direction, filming, drone cinematography, editing and colour grading by Kaily Gan. I chose to connect the restaurant’s food with its coastal setting, using aerial views to establish the location and closer shots to reveal texture, human presence and atmosphere. The main film carries the complete visual story, while the short-form videos focus on individual moments within the same creative direction.
