Behind the Kitchen — From Fire to Plate is a process-led food film created for MUSE Peranakan Bistro by the Sea. The film moves behind the dining room and into the kitchen, focusing on the energy, heat and precision involved in preparing each dish. Rather than showing only the finished food, the story follows the transformation itself — wok movement, steam, fire, plating, texture and the final handoff from kitchen to table. The result is a fast, tactile visual piece designed to make the cooking process feel immediate, physical and cinematic.

Brand objective
Reveal the craft and energy behind MUSE’s kitchen by showing the process, movement and attention that transform ingredients into the final dining experience.
Creative direction
The visual direction focused on heat, motion and texture. Tight kitchen framing, steam, wok movement, quick hand actions and close-up food details were used to create a sense of immediacy. The edit was structured around escalation — preparation, fire, movement and plating — so the audience experiences the kitchen as a performance rather than simply a workspace.
Client challenge
The challenge was to capture a fast-moving working kitchen without interrupting service. The film needed to feel cinematic while working with real timing, limited space, changing heat and light conditions, and dishes that could only be captured once during preparation.
My role & key decisions
Creative Direction · Videography · Kitchen Cinematography · Food Cinematography · Editing · Colour Treatment I built the sequence around physical kitchen actions rather than dialogue, using fire, steam, utensil movement and plating as the visual rhythm. The key decision was to stay close to the action and let the cooking process itself become the narrative.
