Flavours We Grew Up With is a personal short film about childhood, memory and the small everyday flavours that stay with us. The story moves through familiar details — school shoes, classrooms, neighbourhood streets, simple snacks and old-style local shops — using food as a doorway into memory. Rather than focusing on nostalgia as something dramatic, the film looks at the quiet things that once felt ordinary but later become deeply meaningful. Through observational cinematography, natural environments and simple human moments, the project explores how taste, place and memory remain connected long after childhood has passed.

Concept
Some flavours never really leave us.
Brand objective
Create an emotionally grounded short film that demonstrates how food and everyday environments can be used to tell a human story beyond conventional F&B advertising.
Creative direction
The visual direction focused on natural light, lived-in environments and familiar everyday details. School shoes, classroom moments, neighbourhood snacks, old shop displays and morning streets were used as visual memory triggers. The pacing remained gentle and observational, allowing small details and bilingual text to carry the emotional tone rather than relying on dramatic performance.
Client challenge
The challenge was to create emotional meaning from very ordinary subjects without making the film feel staged or overly sentimental. The story needed to feel personal and recognisable while remaining visually coherent across different locations, people and everyday details.
My role & key decisions
Concept Development · Creative Direction · Videography · Editing · Visual Storytelling · Colour Treatment I developed the film around memory rather than product, using food and ordinary objects as emotional anchors. The key creative decision was to avoid overly polished commercial imagery and instead preserve a familiar, slightly imperfect documentary feeling that supports the theme of childhood remembrance.

Distribution & verified results
Published as a personal narrative reel and developed as a portfolio case study demonstrating emotional storytelling, documentary-style filmmaking and food-led visual narrative. The project represents a softer storytelling direction suitable for lifestyle, heritage, food culture and emotionally driven brand campaigns.
